Chantel's Diagnosis is FINAL: Hodgkins Disease

Chantel has been referred to BC Cancer Agency for staging (determining what stage the disease is in - there are 4 stages in cancer diagnosis). She will be finding out next steps early next week.

I also want to thank everyone who has sent best wishes / prayers for Chantel. It is funny how I feel fairly calm yet deeply moved by each persons comments over the past days. Thank you all very much for your support and thoughts.

Hi guys,

Just a quick note to let you know we are thinking of you. Chantal, I had cancer when I was 15 years old (non-hodgkins lymphoma, tumor was in my bowel), and recieved biweekly chemo treatments for 18 mos. Luckily, all was fine and I only have the scar on my abdomen and a weakened immune system to remember it all by....
Good luck with everything, call us if you need anything...

Hey Chantel - I have a close friend who was stage 2 Hodgkins here in Vancouver and went through all the treatments a couple of years ago.

I know he's volunteering with the Cdn Cancer Society now - and has joined their peer support program called Cancer Connection. This is a service offered by the CCS to any one calling 1-888-939-3333 who wants to have a volunteer act as a sounding board/friend/resource etc for them as they work their way through the various stages of the diagnosis and treatment. It can be a one time conversation or a long term relationship and it can be over the telephone or in person. The volunteer is a cancer survivor so we can share personal experiences with the individual if they want more info or we can just be there to listen when others may not fully understand what the individual is going through.

I told him about you and he said that he encourages you to give them a call as they have all sorts of information that she may find useful, even if she doesn’t want to use the Cancer Connection service at this time.

He is also obviously willing to speak with you or Laurie as well.

Let me know if you'd like me to make an intro.
